FAQs

Hi, welcome to our mundane FAQ. Have one to add? Let me know!

Q: Hi, I’m new. What now?

A: Hi, new! I’m glad you asked. Have you completed your official training? (Orientation & Animal Handling classes?) Yes? Then great! Join the Yahoo Group Chat Board. Yes, I know they usually only post more info about orientations and animal handling classes- but it’s the ones in between which can be interesting. I also recommend you memorize your Humane Society Handbook. Also, go to the Humane Society, talk to people ask questions and of course, visit us to keep up with the latest and greatest!

Q: What if I can’t memorize the Handbook?

A: I hate to admit, I haven’t memorized it either. But I know all the important stuff- kids under 16 can’t hold the dog’s leash, know the areas you can & can’t walk the dogs, no treats in the kennel areas, only staff can bring you dogs to walk, and always sanitize between every petting of cats and dogs. So how do I cheat? I am creating a PocketMod from Pocket Mod.com, it’s a piece of paper folded like a little book so you can write all the adoption cheat info and other goodies about becoming a volunteer in it and stick it behind your name badge so no one else has to know! (Once I finish the design, I’ll post it.)  Also when in doubt, ask a staff member- aka, The Golden Rule.

Q: The Yahoo Chat Board edited my post! What happened?

A: Who did you piss off? Ha, kidding. Sometimes they edit for language, other times there are multiple posts, or perhaps it happened accidentally. Was there something you wanted to share? Share it here! I only edit for inappropriate language and people who complain but don’t offer suggestions to fix the problem. Plus, you can email me and I’ll put up one of your full posts! Q: Why is the Volunteer Coordinator a part time position when there are SOOOOO many volunteers?

A: Actually I think the ratio is 10 volunteers to every 1 staff member. And people wonder why our coordinator can’t keep up or didn’t get back to them quickly. We wonder too. Our staff does more than the best that they can! But we only get so much funding- that’s why it’s a part time position. Perhaps you can help! Maybe we could start a phone chain or email chain?  Let me know if you have an idea!

Q: I’m new, I don’t really know anyone and I’m afraid if someone asks me a question, because I have on a red shirt, that I won’t know the answer!

A: You again, new? Geesh. I’ve always found smiling and saying “Hi” works. I say it to people all the time, sometimes twice just in case I missed you the first time. I also introduce myself if someone is close or starts a conversation. Heck, start a conversation. Ask if any of the staff members or volunteers need help with anything! Check your PocketMod for questions and always know where the nearest staff member is in case you or someone else does have a question.

Q: Oh so you think you know everything! Why are YOU doing all the posting and what not?

A: No, I don’t really know much and I think it takes a big person to admit that. I have 2 dogs, 3.5 cats (the kitten=.5), 6 horses, racoons, mice, snakes, and raised a wild starling among my families. But I’m doing this because I care and I have the time and expertise. Plus I want to meet people and learn new things while helping the animals! You’ll find no alternate motivation for me doing things, no agenda or politics here, promise. Have a Myspace page? Look me up- http://www.myspace.com/bellamotives .

Any other FAQ’S? Email me and I’ll add them- bellamotives@gmail.com See you at the Humane Society!
